What are the best future uses?
Thursday, April 16, 2009

John Duffy, Mat-Su Borough Manager attended the MLCC General Membership meeting and asked for the communities input regarding Borough-owned parcels of land within the MLCC area and what would be the best designation for those parcels.  There are few (if not just a couple) such parcels and it is highly likely that there are better uses than gravel extraction for them.  The community will need to discuss the best way to classify those for future use (i.e., Schools, recreation, Fire Hall, etc.).  Once the MLCC General Membership has settled on the best uses, it can forward a request to the Assembly and Planning Commission to so-designate those lands.Read more

Eternal hope........
Thursday, April 16, 2009
Well, well, well..........another winter month gone by, now we trudge our way through Spring Break-Up.  This time of year has always been one of my favorites.  Yeah, I know.......it's ugly, it's muddy, gone is the pristine white of winter, but at the same time it shows us natures' version of  "the ultimate hope," - the annual re-birth.  Soon we will see a tint of green when we look across the skyline as the birch, and willow begin to bud.  The lakes will turn black as the ice changes from a very solid hard mass of frozen water to "rotten" ice that with a gentle breeze can disappear in a matter of hours.  Soon, some of my favorite visitors, (waterfowl), will be visiting the lake that I reside upon.  Many will rest for a bit before continuing on with their migration, while others have reached their final destination.Read more

Groundbreaking for the Birch Creek Villas Senior Housing was held on June 25th, 2008.  Soon there will be another celebration, the grand opening.  The Villas are near completion, and it is anticipated that residents will be moving in by mid-April.  The video to your left was taken on February 27th.  There are still several items to be done prior to it being ready for residents, trim and floor coverings, to name a couple, and variety of items will have to wait till summer, such as  the paving, landscaping and exterior paint.

Within the complex are seven, two bedroom apartments and one, one bedroom apartment, each have their own oversized single car garage.  The building is designed as handicap accessible, and has in-floor heat.  Each unit is equipped with Washer, Dryer, Stove, Refrigerator and Dishwasher.  Four of the two bedroom units are classed as Market Rate, the remaining units are reserved for rent assisted occupancy, more specifically; only available to low-income households.  All occupants must be 62 years of age or older, with one exception which is live-in caregivers.Read more

Our original story:

Sometimes it's hard to keep a positive attitude.  Meadow Lakes continues to be one of the fastest growing communities within the Borough.  As that growth currently has nothing to direct it in a constructive manner we must always be aware of how events occurring within it's boundaries affects each and every one of our futures as residents of this community. The SpUD has been a major topic during the past few months, it is the very thing that would protect the community from the current request to the Borough from Quality Asphalt and Paving.  The following text is from the Notice sent to surrounding landowners and the Meadow Lakes Community Council from the Mat-Su Borough:Read more

So you think yours are protecting you....
Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Of the 200+ subdivisions located within the boundaries of the Meadow Lakes Community Council, identified on the Borough Tax Rolls, there are as little as 2 percent (approximately 5), that have active homeowner's associations. Active Homeowner Associations can oversee that convenants are enforced. Unfortunately, a lot of landowners seem to believe that when purchasing their property that the covenants associated with their land will be enforced by the Borough.Read more
