Introducing Life ABC's

"What is a Life Coach Anyway?"

What is a life coach?  That’s a good question and one I get all the time. A life coach is much like any other coach; someone whose focus is to help each person they encounter find the best within themselves in order to achieve personal, relationship or business goals. Depending on their own area of expertise, a coach can be a source for ideas, can listen while you bounce ideas off of them, they can be a research assistant, give entrepreneurial business assistance and information, even be a sounding board for some frustrations. Many coaches (me included) have some ideas for, and experience in, optimum time usage. (I hesitate to say time ‘management’ because I’m definitely too much of a free spirit to be constrained to the limits of time
‘management’.
Many times we feel pressured by the ‘right way’ to do things. If we can find an opportunity to think outside the box for a little while, suddenly pathways around/over/under/through the obstacles just…appear! By utilizing optimum time usage you decide how your time is ‘managed’.  That’s something I really love about coaching. Helping people discover their own strengths and watching them apply that to the flow in their life is such a great thing.

Okay that’s great, but what do you actually do?

Another good question, it all depends.  First we determine what the client wants to accomplish…then we make a plan.
Some of my clients have wanted small business information such as:

Ø Business research
Ø Location, location, location - understanding real estate in the community as it pertains to their business
Ø Low-cost or free marketing ideas

Personal goals have included:
Ø Discovering hidden strengths and talents
Ø More structure in the evenings so homework isn’t such a chore
Ø New ways to talk to children who have grown distant
Ø Weight loss
Ø Nurturing talent

My education background is in Sociology and Business and my work experience with the general public includes radio personality, recreation director (for children and seniors), community activist, writer, newsletter and book publishing, entertainer and event organizer.  As a coach I’ve also done work in mapping and outlining personal goals, good food and wellness, information and referral, writing and publishing, community action and activism, understanding government agencies, advocating, and maneuvering medical mazes.

Hope that answers your questions.

Remember it's your choice so you might as well have a Great Day!
