Town Hall Meeting
Get yourself on the mailing list for either or both of these gentlemen. I heard them speak at the Meadow Lakes Elementary School on Saturday, March 21st and left feeling I had a much better sense of the work they do in representing us Valley-ites in Juneau. Both Charlie and Mark listened carefully to everyone who spoke, giving each person their full attention and respect. Responses were informative and well thought out. I am sorry more people weren’t present, but as a result of the low attendance, the meeting assumed an informal, relaxed, and personal tone.
Watching these two politicians, although both Charlie and Mark reject that title, gave me a much better sense of the real work they do, their in-depth knowledge of all the issues, and their ability to show the connections between multiple issues, always referring back to the larger picture—no pat, simplistic answers there. I’m not going to try to give a full report on what they said but just note the major issues they are working on.
They’re looking into the stimulus package to see if there are moneys available for developing resources in our state without instituting programs that would place future financial burden on the state. They just came back from DC where they made the case for Alaska to play a larger role in getting the US off dependence on foreign oil. the role they see Alaska. Both Neuman and Huggins are pushing for the "bullet line," stating that it needs to be pursued independently and simultaneously with the gas pipe line.
