Thursday, January 1, 2009
The Chatter is proud to introduce watercolor artist and lifelong Alaskan Teresa Ascone. For more than 30 years, she has portrayed her beloved homeland in her distinctive, romanticized style. Her art appears on the covers of magazines and in numerous collections worldwide. Anchorage, sent her originals to Korea, England and Russia as official gifts from the Anchorage Sister Cities Commission. An award-winning PBS video, Landscapes of the Imagination: The Art of Teresa Ascone, honored her in 1988. Illustrating Things in the Sky, a school book commissioned by the North Slope Borough School District, ignited her desire to do more book illustration. The author of two art instruction books, she taught art techniques for more than 25 years in cities and villages throughout Alaska, from far north Barrow to Dutch Harbor and Unalaska in the Aleutian Chain. Her development of the Ultimate Watercolor Academy and Art Show at UAA led to her nomination for the UAA Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence. Teresa holds a patent on the Ultimate Palette, which she designed in the 1990s. She currently maintains her studio in Meadow Lakes, where she is hard at work on new stories featuring the Alaska berry fairies.Read more
